Project 01 · Steam removal

Sometimes, it’s one small piece after another.

In this Sarasota project, we used water and steam without chemical wallpaper strippers. The paper released gradually, with stubborn glue making some sections much slower than others.

The time-lapse makes hours of work look quick. In reality, a room can take hours of patient removal, and small areas of wall damage may need repair afterward.

Steam-only removal describes this first project. The right approach depends on the covering and the surface underneath.

Project 02 · A different covering

Other times, larger sheets let go.

This second Sarasota project shows wallpaper peeling away in larger sections above wood paneling. It’s a different removal experience—and a useful reminder that every room has its own challenges.

For this project, the described approach includes careful scoring, low-odor removal solvents, and gentle peeling, while avoiding excessive soaking of the walls.

Once the paper is off, the remaining adhesive and wall condition determine the preparation needed for the next finish.

Questions before you begin

What should you expect?

Is every wallpaper-removal job chemical-free?

No. The first project shown here used only water and steam. Other projects can call for a different method, including a wallpaper-removal product. We discuss the approach for your walls before starting.

Will the wall need repairs afterward?

It can. Stubborn glue, the condition beneath the paper, and the removal process can leave small damaged areas. Repair and surface preparation are part of planning a smooth painted finish.

How long does wallpaper removal take?

It varies with the room size, number of layers, adhesive, and how the paper releases. A room can take hours, especially when the paper comes off in small pieces. An in-person look helps us estimate the work.

Can you paint the walls after removal?

Yes. Saetre Paint can handle the removal, agreed repairs, priming, and interior painting as part of the same project.
