Pressure washing.
Or repainting?
A fresh look for your home starts with knowing what the surface needs.
Sometimes a good cleaning is enough. Sometimes it is time for a fresh coat. Let’s take a closer look.

When you look at your house and think, “It needs freshening up,” a full repaint is one option. But first, take a closer look. Is dirt hiding a finish that is still in good condition? Is the paint coming loose? Or do you simply want a different color?
At Saetre Paint, we offer both exterior painting and pressure cleaning around Sarasota. The first conversation should be about what your home needs.
Cleaning may be enough
The coating is intact, you still like the color, and surface dirt is the main concern.
Consider a repaint
The coating is failing, bare areas need protection, or you want to change the color.
When pressure cleaning is a good starting point
If the paint is firmly attached and the main issue is surface dirt or buildup, appropriate cleaning may improve the appearance without a complete repaint. The result depends on the surface and the type of staining.
Look beyond the walls, too. A dirty driveway, pool deck, or screened enclosure can affect how the whole property looks. You may want to tackle those areas even when the house paint is still holding up.
When cleaning alone will not solve it
Washing cannot put missing paint back, repair a damaged surface, or change your home’s color. These are reasons to discuss preparation and painting:
- Peeling or flaking paint. Loose coating needs attention before a new finish is applied.
- Exposed areas or damaged surfaces. Repairs and the appropriate primer may be needed as part of the work.
- A color you no longer want. Even sound paint can be repainted for a new look.
A small problem area does not automatically mean the entire house needs painting. We can review whether localized work makes sense or whether a full repaint would give you a more consistent result.
What about that chalky powder?
Powder on exterior paint can be chalking from weathering. It is a reason to check the finish, but it does not automatically mean a full repaint is necessary.
Chalk residue needs proper cleaning. Once the surface is clean and dry, its remaining condition helps determine the next step. Sherwin-Williams also notes that chalking can sometimes be resolved through cleaning alone.
Painting usually starts with cleaning, too
If repainting is the right choice, preparation still matters. Surface contamination and loose coating need to be addressed, repairs considered, and the surface allowed to dry before painting. The cleaning method and drying time should suit the material, weather, and coating instructions.
For a real local example, take a look at our Prestancia exterior color change. That project included full priming and two finish coats as part of its specific painting plan.
