Chapter 03 · Cathedral windows & high ceilings

Remarkable height.
Attention all the way up.

Tall arched windows and soaring ceilings give this room its character. Our project film follows the access, preparation, priming, and painting around these distinctive architectural details.

Architecture worth the attention

Follow the room
all the way up.

Cathedral-style windows turn height into a defining feature. In this room, tall arched frames, crown molding, walls, and ceiling surfaces all needed to be considered together.

The time-lapse follows our work around those details, including scaffold access, protection, the window-frame priming stage, and the finish painting.

Access is part of the project.

Before the coating work comes the practical question of reaching the surfaces. This room used scaffolding so the team could work around the high windows and ceiling details.

A tall-room estimate needs to account for height, floor space, fixed features, and the access required for the actual work. Those details matter as much as a floor plan’s room dimensions.

Prepare the frames. Respect the surrounding surfaces.

The project used B-I-N Shellac-Base Primer on the window frames, followed by Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel. Masking and protection helped define the work around the windows.

The film is a record of this project’s preparation and products. Another set of windows may need a different approach depending on the material, condition, and existing coating.

Walls and ceilings complete the room.

For the broad surfaces, the project used ProBlock primer and Duration Interior. Coordinating the frames, trim, walls, and ceiling keeps the scope understandable even when the architecture is complex.

When you plan a tall-room repaint, describe both the individual details and the whole room. The proposal should identify which surfaces will be painted and how the preparation and access are included.

The cathedral-window sequence.

  1. Plan access and protection

Set up the project’s scaffolding and protect surrounding surfaces for the work above.

  2. Prepare the window frames

Complete the masking and surface preparation, then prime the frames with B-I-N for this project.

  3. Apply the frame finish

Coat the prepared window frames with Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel.

  4. Finish the surrounding room

Prime and paint the included walls and ceiling with the project’s ProBlock and Duration system.

Show us the scale.

Useful estimate photos include the entire window wall, the ceiling, the floor area beneath, and close views of the frames or existing coating concerns.

Mention fixed furniture, chandeliers, changes in floor level, and any areas that are difficult to reach. We can then discuss what needs a closer look during an interior assessment.

Before your own project.

Can you quote a tall room from its floor area alone?

Floor area is only one piece of the project. Window and trim details, ceiling height, wall area, surface condition, and access need to be considered.

Does every high-ceiling job need scaffolding?

The access method depends on the room and the work. Scaffolding is shown in this project; the setup for your home is reviewed as part of the scope.

Can I include the window frames with a room repaint?

Yes, discuss them when requesting the estimate. Identify whether you want the frames, surrounding trim, walls, ceiling, or all of those surfaces included.

Plan your interior project

Plan the details. Enjoy the space.

Tell Vidar which rooms you want to refresh. Send a few photos and we’ll discuss the preparation, surfaces, and next step toward a written estimate.
